CEDIA 2014: OmniMount OE120IW

By Chris Heinonen on September 10, 2014

A TV Mount isn’t something I’d usually post about. It’s hard to make a TV Mount exciting. They hang your TV on the wall and if they don’t fall off, they are doing their job. However, OmniMount had a very interesting looking one at the CEDIA Media Preview event that I thought deserved more coverage.

The OmniMount OE120IW is an in-wall flat panel mount instead of the traditional on-wall mount. Nestled between two studs (with 16″ spacing) it can hold a TV up to 120 lbs. directly against the wall. The mount arms allow up to 11″ of motion, letting you pull the TV away from the wall and tilt it if needed when you are watching. When placed flat against the wall it is less than 0.5″ thick so your TV is virtually flat. Ample cable routing in the arms and inside the bay lets you keep everything clean and simple.

Combined with an OmniMount power kit, you can run power for up to two devices and cables inside the wall without needing to hire an electrician. Really, I’ve done this myself and if I can do it, you can. Installing this will actually be easier than a normal mount, since you need to make a hole in the wall for it to be placed in and it attaches to the studs at 4 points. It even offers up to 1″ of adjustments so you can get your installation looking perfect, even if you aren’t. I really came away wanting to install one of these in my house because it will look so clean.
