Sony BDP-S590 Blu-ray Player Review

By Chris Heinonen on May 27, 2012

Sony BDP-S590 Blu-ray PlayerSony is one of the originators of the Blu-ray format and has likely sold more players than any other company thanks to their PlayStation 3 game console. Their past players had been very well-regarded when released, but when I put them through the new Secrets of Home Theater HDMI Benchmark last year their performance was less than stellar. Now that they have had a year to correct those issues, they have released the BDP-Sx90 line of players, and I tested the Sony BDP-S590.

Following the same general plan of the 570 and 580 players, the Sony BDP-S590 has loads of streaming content, integrated WiFi, and even support for SACD discs. Of course none of this matters if the image isn’t up to the task, and here Sony has taken the criticism we leveled on it and managed to deliver a much improved player. To see just how much it has improved, the full review is over at Secrets of Home Theater for you to read today.

     Mr. Heinonen,

Did Sony ever fix the video issue you talked about in your review of the BDP-S590?

Sony fixed the BDP-S590 issue as of a week ago and I will be updating the review to reflect this with new tests.  A fix for the BDP-S790 is due shortly as well as it has the same issue.
